founder's story
Ivan Yuan’s journey is a testament to defiance and passion. Born in Taiwan and uprooted to New Zealand at 12, he grew up straddling Eastern and Western worlds, fluent in both English and Chinese. Engineering was his foundation, following his father’s path, but mountain biking became his obsession.
A glimpse of a Giant mountain bike in his teens ignited a dream. Years later, with an engineering degree and a relentless passion, Ivan plunged into the bike industry. He honed his craft at SRAM and pushed boundaries at Forestal, but the renegade in him yearned for more.
The idea for Renegade MTB Components sparked from countless rides on Pinion gearbox bikes, where Ivan saw a need for better crank options. Fueled by a hunch and the support of fellow riders, he took the leap.
Renegade is more than a brand—it’s a rebellion against the ordinary. It’s gear for the trailblazers, the innovators, the ones who carve their own paths. Just like Ivan did.
